Looking at Dedicated Hosting Plans

So things over at nineteen05 are starting to really get moving. We’re almost to version 0.8 of our software as we’ll be rolling out the bulk of our member management utility in the coming week or two. Over the last week we’ve had two appointments that each have gone really well. Now it’s to followup and just getting everything to play well together.

This leads me to this post. We are needing to move over to a dedicated hosting solution. I have looked at both VPS and Dedicated. We’ve made the decision to go with dedicated for the benefits of having our who unit (which we may run like a vps for our clients) to ensure up-time and that it is only our scripts competing for resources. While this is a more expensive approach, over time we believe that it will be more beneficial for us. I’d really appreciate any feedback from those of you out there who know more about the network administration side of things than I do.

I came accross a website compairing different hosting services ( and have narrowed down our needs as such (link).

  • Disk Space: 160 gigs+
  • Bandwidth: 2 TB+
  • RAM: 1 gig +
  • Cost: Under $200
  • Up Time: 99.9% (with 99.99 preferable)

Other things that would be nice:

  • Gigabit ethernet
  • Rack-mounted
  • Dedicated backup space (though I could partition for this)
  • Semi Managed (as I’m a developer, not a network engineer)
  • Custom DNS (which should be the case with all dedicated hosting if I know correctly)

I’ve tenatively narrowed it down to three options:

  • Steadfast Networks (web):
    • Processor: Core 2 Duo 2.2 Ghz
    • Diskspace: 250 Gigs
    • Ram: 1 Gig
    • Bandwidth: 2 Tb
    • (8 gigs/gig of disk space)
    • Cost: $150
  • NetRackServers (web): Dedicated Delux (dedicated list)
    • Processor: Duel-Core 1.8 Ghz
    • Diskspace: 250 Gigs
    • Ram: 1 Gig
    • Bandwidth: unmetered (not sure what this means)
    • Cost: $149
  • SingleHop (web):S-PD945 (dedicated list)
    • Duel-Core 3.4 Ghz
    • Diskspace: 250 Gigs
    • Ram: 1 Gig
    • Bandwidth: 5 Tb
    • (20 gigs/gig of disk space)
    • Cost: $149

I had at one point considered RackSpace but never felt comfortable with there service or my communications with them. So they are no-longer an option. One final question: What has peoples experience been with Virtuozzo?

OK so that was a lot, but any and all thoughts and feedback would be greatly appreciated.
